Community Overview

Oakville, Real Estate

A beautiful lakeside town with a fascinating heritage, Oakville was founded in 1857 and enjoys the advantages of a well-serviced urban center, while maintaining its small-town ambiance. A part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) metropolitan community, the vibrant town of Oakville is a 30-minute drive from downtown Toronto, and an hour's drive from the U.S. border.

Downtown Oakville is a sophisticated shopping and cultural district noted for its upscale retail mix. The historic streets are lined with charming 19th-Century buildings that house a fine collection of art galleries, restaurants, gourmet food purveyors, and high fashion and design houses, as well as health, wealth and wellness centers. The area is also home to a myriad of professional services from banking and finance to real estate and renovation or construction.

As a modern, fun, and "happening" place, downtown Oakville always offers things to do. Every May, a little glamour comes to Oakville with the Downtown Oakville Fashion Week. The town's most famous prêt-a-porter and fashion boutiques prepare a show and accessories exhibit to preview the spring and summer collections hitting store windows in downtown Oakville.

In August, Oakville plays host to the Oakville Jazz Festival, attracting thousands of residents and tourists each year. Where many jazz festivals have gone astray in their programming, the Oakville Jazz Festival still presents a line-up primarily focused on the jazz genre. Largely considered one of the leading jazz festivals in the Greater Toronto Area, the event plays host to local, regional, national, and international acts.

With 1,300 hectares of natural parklands and more than 140 kilometers of groomed hiking trails, Oakville is a nature lover's paradise. The town enjoys 17 kilometers of Lake Ontario waterfront, with two picturesque harbors with docks and slips for sailboats and powerboats, and is also home to some of the best golf courses in Canada including the internationally renowned Glen Abbey Golf Club.
